Minimum system requirements

Rural-WEB has successfully connected Windows and Linux based PCs and Apple Macs. Increasingly, connection is to a member's own router and through that to several computers.

Normally, we supply equipment which provides an "Ethernet" connection to your equipment, rather than a "USB" one. Most modern personal computers have an Ethernet socket. Where our wireless signal is strong enough members may be able to connect directly from a wirelessly equipped PC or lap-top.

Is Rural-WEB available in my area?

Rural-WEB's "area" is quite limited, though there are many similar arrangements throughout the world including remote rural areas still without wired broadband, and central London!

At present we have a network in Woodhouse Eaves and a smaller one in Swithland, though not all houses are covered. In Woodhouse Eaves the best coverage is in Maplewell Road and roads leading off, some of Birdhill Road and areas around the Tuckett Road/Herrick Road green.

We can carry out a simple test outside (or inside) your house to assess signal strength and feasibility of connection.
