Rural-WEB was conceived to be a co-operative community enterprise, with its users, members and volunteer workers being one and the same.
Inevitably, to get the project off the ground, we relied on a small group of activists who gave up hundreds of hours of their time. We now pay one member a small retainer to supply most of the support. With this arrangement and with careful management of resources, Rural-WEB is just about self-sustaining.
The original activists now (understandably) have other priorities, so we need more volunteers with energy to take some of the burden - particularly on the administrative side. Could you contribute a few hours a month? No one will be expected to carry out tasks they are uncomfortable with or otherwise unqualified to perform. All work with a potential health and safety impact is contracted to insured professionals. Tasks might be from this list:
- Member liaison
- Promotion and public relations
- General administrative support
- General practical support (holding ladders and suchlike)
- Client Installations (requires some computing knowledge)
